Encyclopedia > Commerce One

Commerce One was one of the pioneering e-commerce companies.

They went bankrupt.

In December, 2004 their large patent portfolio was sold by the bankruptcy court to JGR Acquisitions for $15.5 million. This group is unknown and does not appear to be connected with any of the major software companies. It presumably wishes to enforce its patents to recoup its fees. However this may be difficult as Commerce One licenced many of its patents as part of its participation in the development of internet standards.
