The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is the governing body covering both public and private higher education institutions as well as degree-granting programs in all tertiary educational institutions in the Philippines. It was created on May 18, 1994 through Republic Act 7722 (also known as the Higher Education Act of 1994). Prior to 1994, the responsibility for higher education rested with the Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS) through its Bureau of Higher Education. CHED is a department level agency that is independent from and co-equal to the current Department of Education (DepED). The Republic of the Philippines is a country of South East Asia, located in the western Pacific Ocean some 1,210 km (750 mi) from mainland Asia. ...
