It is 3.5-4.5 cm long with a wingspan of 19-25cm. Its brown fur is variable in tone. It is common in woodland and farmland but also found in towns where it roosts in lofts and buildings.

The Common Pipistrelle, Pipistrellus pipistrellus has a very large range across most of Europe, North Africa, southwestern Asia, and possibly into Korea.
It is one of the most common species in the British Isles.
In North America, two species are widely distributed, though both (like bats in densely inhabited areas in general) are on the brink of becoming endangered in many regions by a loss of suitable nesting and hibernation places: the Eastern Pipistrelle (Pipistrellus subflavus) and the Western Pipistrelle (Pipistrellus hesperus).
Common Pipistrelle Bat (1170 words)
Both the common pipistrelle and the soprano pipistrelle were found to mainly eat Diptera: Nematocerca, and both had a similar dietary range (Barlow, 1997).
The common pipistrelle mainly fed on insects in the families Psychodidae, Anisopodidae and Muscidae.
The decline in Europe of many bat populations, including that of the common pipistrelle is often partially attributed to the use of agricultural chemicals in the intensification of agriculture.
