KFML(r) was founded through a split in the pro-Beijing KFML. "(r)-arna" considered that KFML had approached reformism and was not a genuine workers' movement. In 1970 it began publishing the weekly Proletären (The Proletarian). During the 80's KPML(r) achieved representation in some munipicalities, including Göteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden's second largest city. The Göteborg region has always been the strongest point of KPML(r). During the period of 1970 to 1999 the party chairman was Frank Baude. Today, he's still a CC member. The current chairman is Anders Carlsson.
