The Socialist Party (LSAP) was a junior partner in most governments from 1974 either with the CSV from 1984-1999 or the DP from 1974-1979.
The Communist Party (PCL), which received 10%-18% of the vote in national elections from World War II to the 1960s, won only two seats in the 1984 elections, one in 1989, and none in 1994.
Luxembourg's contribution to its defence and to NATO consists of a small army.

The framework and the way of activities of this “European Party” are clearly identified by the institutions of the European Union, and it is financed by the EU.
Actually the ELP is segregating communist parties from several countries and prefers to co-operate with “left wing” forces who are openly fighting against the existing communist parties in their countries — as it is the case for example in Greece, in Luxembourg and in Portugal.
Together with communists from different other European countries, the KPL will go on striving to further develop the co-operation and the unity of action of those communist parties who are based on Marxist positions and who are seriously working for overcoming capitalism and for a socialist perspective.
