The final and most definitive chapter in the CPT's demise came with PM Prem Tinsulanonda's 1982 declaration of amnesty for all CPT members, including the PLAT. Thousands of PLAT - many of them Thai students - surrendered their arms and returned home. By the mid-1980s, with the PLAT's rank and file depleted, the remaining hard-core PLAT headquartered in Phitanulok Province were militarily defeated.
