Communities of origin are founded on family relationships, geographical areas, cultural, ethnic, or religious groups in which one is born or raised.
Persons with the same disease could form a community of origin if there is a family history, as may be the case for monogenic disorders (single gene), or a community of circumstance, which is usually the case for common multifactorial diseases.
