Mission

It was founded to apply new technology solutions to make life easier for consumers, that is for lifestyle innovation. Typically this involves breaking away from traditional centralised control, into distributed embedded intelligence. Distributed intelligence allows services to grow organically with investment required only as market demand grows rather than the traditional model of inflexible expensive centralised control. It also typically places control in the hands of the user, rather than a third party.

Compuspec developed the world's first line-powered dialler, or network access device, called Zippy, in 1992. The diallers enabled allow carriers to roll out customer service very flexibly and cheaply. Traditionally, a carrier must invest massive expense in infrastructure with exchange switching equipment. The diallers allowed alternate telecommunications carriers to better compete with incumbent carriers in newly deregulated telephone markets; it accelerated the deregulation process and provided consumers with more choices of carriers. Such a dialler is fitted to a phone line and routes each call based on the services the customer has subscribed to. In some cases, it reports to a central management centre (DMP) to enable the carrier to monitor the quality of service and change the services the user enjoys, based on the current service offerings. The dialled telephone numbers are not recorded or reported. The acronym DMP may stand for: Disease Management Programmes for chronic diseases Dublin Metropolitan Police: the police for Dublin, Ireland, from 1836 to 1925 Dynamic Multipathing, a system of computer storage Designated Mailers Protocol, a mailing protocol Dynamics of Markovian Particles, a statistical mechanics Dialler Management Platform, a computer that... In the fields of packet-switched networks and computer networking, the traffic engineering term Quality of Service (QoS) refers to control mechanisms that can provide different priority to different users or data flows, or guarantee a certain level of performance to a data flow in accordance with requests from the...

Initially these smart sockets had to be installed by qualified technicians. But eventually they were made so small, smart and simple to use that they are now mailed to customers, which much cheaper.

When plugged in, they configure themselves based on the customer's geographic areas and the services he or she is subscribed for. If the user moves location, the dialler reconfigures itself. Thus the intelligence in the traditional telephone exchange is moved to the end of the user's phone line.

Compuspec has also developed enhanced versions of this dialler technology that support voice prompts for customer-specific feature selection, soft call blocking, alternate network access multiple access dialler and anti-fraud detection and prevention. With soft call blocking, calls to certain destinations are automatically limited in duration or prevented. Alternate network access is useful where network reliability requires fall-back to alternative networks. Payphone anti-fraud diallers (typically used in payphones) detect 12 types of phone fraud. New diallers also allow some call destinations to be routed via low cost VoIP carriers. IP Telephony, also called Internet telephony, is the technology that makes it possible to have a telephone conversation over the Internet or a dedicated Internet Protocol (IP) network instead of dedicated voice transmission lines. ...

Compuspec's ultra low powered technology led to the development of intelligent phone sockets which enable proactive line quality measurements, ADSL quality prediction and automatic fault location, thereby enhancing customer service and massively reducing network maintenance costs. Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a form of DSL, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional modem can provide. ...
