Concordia University is a private liberal arts university in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Its 187-acre campus sits on the banks of the Huron River, about ten minutes outside downtown Ann Arbor. Concordia is affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS). The current president, Dr. Thomas R. Ahlersmeyer, has led the university since September 2003.
The institution has approximately 600 undergraduate students, with a student-faculty ratio of about 11 to 1. Concordia offers over 40 areas of study, a set of adult education programs, and a variety of study-abroad activities.
History
The institution was established as Concordia Lutheran Junior College in 1963. It changed its name to Concordia College when it began offering four-year degree programs in 1974, and finally became Concordia University in 2001.
Athletics
Concordia University is affiliated with the NAIA. Its sports teams are nicknamed the Cardinals, and it offers seven intercollegiate sports with eleven men’s and women’s teams.
