The Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, or Svenskt Näringsliv, is a major interest organization for business and industry in Sweden. It has 48 member associations representing close to 55.000 member companies with more than 1.5 million employees.
The current organization is the result of a merger between the Swedish Employers Association (Svenska Arbetsgivareföreningen) and the Swedish National Federation of Industry (Sveriges Industriförbund) that was completed in March 2001.
Like its predecessors, the organization is actively lobbying for pro-business interests. Tax cuts, especially the abolition of property and inheritance taxes, is a main priority. The organization also promotes letting private enterprises take over the production of a larger part of services today mainly performed by the Swedish public sector, such as education and health services.
The current president is Michael Treschow, who is also the chairman of the major Swedish company Ericsson's Board of Directors. The organization's 200 employees work in the Stockholm main office, 22 regional offices in Sweden and the EUBrussels regional office.
The agreement reached by LO Sweden and the Confederation of SwedishEnterprise is a victory for the Swedish model, states Erland Olauson.
The Confederation of SwedishEnterprise and LO Sweden agreed on February 7, 2005, to try to establish principles and bases for what should apply with regard to sectoral agreements signed on national level for foreign employers who become temporary members in an employer organisation within the Confederation of SwedishEnterprise.
The Confederation of SwedishEnterprise and LO Sweden have taken it as their principle that sectoral agreements must be able to provide well-functioning solutions also in cases when companies carry on temporary activities in Sweden.
