The Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC) is the successor to the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference of North America except that it is international in scope rather than restricted to North America.
First founded in 1993 with thirteen confessional Lutheran national churches as members, the Conference has grown to nineteen members today. Plenary sessions are held every three years. To date there have been four plenary meetings (1993, 1996, 1999, 2002), with regional meetings held in the intervening years.

Lutheran doctrine emphasizes salvation by faith alone and the primacy of the Bible as the church's authority.
Lutherans are known for their stress on the doctrine of justification by grace, through faith, and for their insistence on the Bible alone as a rule of faith.
Lutheranism is a movement within Christianity that began with the theological insights of Martin Luther in the 16th century, which launched the Protestant Reformation of the Western church.
