ConnDOT's duties include:

  • The state and local highway system including the maintnence of road signs in towns throughout the state which elect not to maintain their own.
  • The management of the state's railroads, including funding of some trains on the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line and whole operations of the Shore Line East system between New Haven and New London. For the latter, ConnDOT carries the AAR reporting mark CNDX.
  • Operation of Connecticut Transit, a provider of bus transit in much of the state. ConnDOT provides funding for not only Connecticut Transit, but also for several other bus providers in the state and has, in the past, funded the purchase of some trainsets for Metro-North.
  • Management and operations of most of the state's ports along Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.
