Connoquenessing Township is a township located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 3,653.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 58.2 km˛ (22.5 mi˛). 58.2 km˛ (22.5 mi˛) of it is land and 0.04% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,653 people, 1,386 households, and 1,056 families residing in the township. The population density is 62.8/km˛ (162.7/mi˛). There are 1,458 housing units at an average density of 25.1/km˛ (64.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the township is 99.10% White, 0.11% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.25% from two or more races. 0.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,386 households out of which 35.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.7% are married couples living together, 6.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% are non-families. 20.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.06.


In the township the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.6 males.


The median income for a household in the township is $41,060, and the median income for a family is $45,429. Males have a median income of $36,696 versus $27,460 for females. The per capita income for the township is $19,502. 7.6% of the population and 5.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.5% of those under the age of 18 and 8.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The Township of Pine was established in 1796.
After the establishment of Ohio Township in 1803, Pine Township included much of Jones' and Douglass' districts that were situated in Allegheny County including all of Ross, Reserve, McCandlass, Pine and Allegheny City, and parts of Richland, Hampton and Shaler Townships.
With the excision of McCandless Township the area of the township was established at it's current size of approximately 17 square miles.
