History

The Conservative Party of Norway was founded in 1884 with Emil Stang as its first Chairman. Høyre is currently the third largest party in the Norwegian Parliament, Stortinget, after the Norwegian Labour Party and the Progress Party. Høyre is committed to fiscal right-wing policies, including tax cuts and little government involvement in the economy. Their social policies are much more liberal, however, with the party's program openly supporting gay adoption rights, among other things, and they are also in favour of Norwegian membership in the European Union.
