The Constitution class USS Enterprise (NCC-1701)

In the fictional Star Trek universe, the Constitution class is a series of Starfleet vessels first put into service in the mid-23rd century. In the original Star Trek series, ships of this class support multiple roles, generally used for exploration and diplomacy, but also equipped for combat with armaments consisting of at least two photon torpedo launchers, two main phaser banks, and a number of secondary phasers. Named for the USS Constitution, the starship Constitution was likely the class pathfinder. Its name and registry appear on a wall display in "Court Martial" (TOS).

USS Defiant (NCC-1764) 

The starship Defiant in 2268 disappears into a rift in space and reappears 100 years in the past in the Mirror Universe (TOS: "The Tholian Web", Ent: "In a Mirror, Darkly").

USS Eagle (NCC-956) 

The Eagle was among the starships that would have been assembled for the abandoned Operation: Retrieve, which would have rescued Captain James Kirk and Doctor Leonard McCoy from Qo'noS in 2293. The Eagle was named for the Lunar Module that carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldren to the moon in 1969. Its name and registry appear on the chart depecting the plan for Operation Retrieve from what was originally a deleted scene in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) 

The ship featured in Star Trek under the command of James T. Kirk. It was refitted from 2269 to 2271 and is destroyed in 2285 when Kirk orders the ship's self-destruction to avoid its capture by Klingons (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock).

ISS Enterprise (NCC-1701) 

The "Imperial Starship" Enterprise is seen in the original series episode Mirror, Mirror and is part of the Mirror Universe. It was commanded by James T. Kirk, who rose to command after assassinating the former captain, Christopher Pike.

The refit Constitution class Enterprise-A

USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) 

The second Constitution-class Enterprise. According to the non-canon Star Trek Encyclopedia and Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual, series creator Gene Roddenberry suggested that the Enterprise-A was the rechristened USS Yorktown. Conversely, the non-canon Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise says the USS Ti-Ho was rechristened Enterprise. The Enterprise-A is ordered decommissioned in 2293 after the Khitomer Conference (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country).

USS Excalibur (NCC-1664) 

Named for the mythical sword Excalibur, the starship Excalibur is severely damaged by the Enterprise in 2268 while Richard Daystrom's M5 computer is in control of the Enterprise (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer").

USS Exeter (NCC-1706) 

Named for HMS Exeter, the starship Exeter was commanded by Captain Ronald Tracey in 2268 when she is found in orbit over Omega IV with its crew dead (TOS: "The Omega Glory"), reduced to their most basic elements by a biological contaminant. The Exeter's later career is the subject of a series of fan-made short films in "Starship Exeter."

USS Farragut (NCC-1647) 

Commanded by a Captain Garrovick, was James T. Kirk's first starship post. In 2257, it was attacked by the Dikironium Cloud Creature, which killed over 200 crew members, including Garrovick (TOS: "Obsession").

USS Hood (NCC-1703) 

Named for the battlecruiser HMS Hood, the starship Hood is one of the ships faced by and nearly destroyed by the Enterprise in the M5 Computer test (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer").

USS Intrepid 

Named for the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, the Vulcan-crewed starship Intrepid is destroyed by a spacefaring organism in 2268 (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome"). This ship being a Constitution-class starship is not confirmed by an on-screen appearance, although the non-canon Star Trek Encyclopedia identifies it as such.

USS Kongō (NCC-1710) 

Named after a class of Japanese battleships, the Kongō is on a deep space exploration mission as of 2293 (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - listed on computer readout).

USS Lexington (NCC-1709) 

The starship Lexington is one of the ships faced by and nearly destroyed by the Enterprise in the M5 Computer test (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer").

USS Potemkin (NCC-1657) 

Named for the Russian battleship Potemkin, the starship Potemkin is one of the ships faced by and nearly destroyed by the Enterprise in the M5 Computer test (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer").

USS Yorktown (NCC-1717) 

The starship Yorktown is disabled by an alien probe (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home). Both The Star Trek Encyclopedia and the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual assert that Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry suggested that the Yorktown was rechristened as the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) following the Probe Crisis.
