In telecommunication, the term contention has the following meanings:
1. A condition that arises when two or more data stations attempt to transmit at the same time over a shared channel, or when two data stations attempt to transmit at the same time in two-way alternate communication.
A contention can occur in data communications when no station is designated a master station. In contention, each station must monitor the signals and wait for a quiescent condition before initiating a bid for master status.
2. Competition by users of a system for use of the same facility at the same time.
Content developers may be tempted to use (or misuse) constructs that achieve a desired formatting effect on older browsers.
The content of a document refers to what it says to the user through natural language, images, sounds, movies, animations, etc. The structure of a document is how it is organized logically (e.g., by chapter, with an introduction and table of contents, etc.).
Content is "equivalent" to other content when both fulfill essentially the same function or purpose upon presentation to the user.
In publishing and media content is information and experiences created by individuals, institutions and technology to benefit audiences in venues that they value.
On a webpage, content is material of interest, put there and changed frequently in order to encourage visits to that page, possibly producing income.
