The Control Strip was originally designed for PowerBooks. It was later introduced to all Mac OS computers beginning with Mac OS 7.5.3. Features

The Control Strip allowed easy control of common tasks such as screen resolution, AppleTalk activity, etc. It's default position is the bottom left of the screen, but can be moved anywhere by pressing Option and dragging it anywhere. These tasks are separated into different modules. These modules have their own folder in the System Folder ("Control Strip Modules") and are activated on startup with the Control Strip (provided it wasn't turned off). Users can choose whether to turn the Control Strip on and off and even set a hot key to do the same task.
