Coos Bay is an S-shaped inlet, approximately 10 mi (16 km) long and 2 mi (3 km) wide, on the Pacific Ocean coast of southwestern Oregon in the United States. The city of Coos Bay, once named Marshfield, was renamed for the bay and is located on its inner side. The Port of Coos Bay is the largest and deepest port between San Francisco, California and the Columbia River. Coos Bay is a S-shaped inlet, approximately 10 mi (16 km) long and 2 mi (3 km) wide, on the Pacific Ocean coast of southwestern Oregon in the United States.
In addition to the town of Coos Bay, the town of North Bend is located along the bay, and a small fishing village, Charleston, is directly opposite the entrance of the bay.
The bay and the towns along it have formed one of the most important ports throughout the history of the state, especially for timber from the surrounding forest regions.
