La Cordillera Central (The Central Mountain ranges) is the main mountainous range in Puerto Rico. Generally speaking, the range crosses the island from west to east with an average elevation of 915m (about 3000 ft) and divides the territory's northern and southern regions.

La Sierra Bermeja ("Vermilion Range") mountain range, with an elevation of about a 305m (1000 ft), is the smallest branch of La Cordillera Central and branches west of La Cordillera Central extending from Guánica to the southwestern tip of the island.


La Sierra de Cayey is an extension of La Cordillera Central beginning at Cayey and runs east to Humacao with elevation approaching only 122m (400 ft). It ends in a fork with two lower ranges, the Sierra Guardarraya and Cuchillas de Panduras which runs between Yabucoa and Patillas.
