The vendace (Coregonus albula) is a whitefish found in lakes in northern Europe, especially Finland, and in some lakes in Scotland (Lochmaben, near Dumfries) and England. It can also be found in Northern-European part of Russia. The name is probably cognate with Gwyniad.
