Corinth is a city located in Denton County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 11,325.


Geography

Corinth is located at 33°8'38" North, 97°4'20" West (33.143952, -97.072194)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.5 km˛ (7.9 mi˛). 20.4 km˛ (7.9 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.63% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 11,325 people, 3,879 households, and 3,359 families residing in the city. The population density is 556.3/km˛ (1,441.3/mi˛). There are 4,100 housing units at an average density of 201.4/km˛ (521.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 88.57% White, 4.19% African American, 0.66% Native American, 2.38% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.25% from other races, and 1.88% from two or more races. 6.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 3,879 households out of which 47.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 79.2% are married couples living together, 4.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.4% are non-families. 9.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.12.


In the city the population is spread out with 30.5% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 42.9% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 3.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.7 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $78,345, and the median income for a family is $80,792. Males have a median income of $52,362 versus $35,089 for females. The per capita income for the city is $30,492. 1.6% of the population and 1.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.6% of those under the age of 18 and 2.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Corinth has unfortunately lost some of its rustic identity; but with an expected buildout of only 27,000 it will probably escape major urban crisis such as might be found in Plano or Carrollton.
Corinth's institute of higher learning, and a commercial anchor for the eastern side of town, resides in North Central Texas College, a two-year technical and vocational school, with a 3,000-plus student body, which opened for classes in January 2000.
Corinth, like Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek and Shady Shores, is also a 15-minute drive to the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University - two of the largest schools in the Metroplex.
