Cork Hibernians had existed for many years prior to League of Ireland membership as AOH (Ancient Order of Hibernians) however the club's strict amateur status meant AOH could not join the league; joining as an amateur team wasn't viable for competitions, however others were encouraged to form a professional club and as a result Cork Hibernians F.C. was born.


Cork Hibernians were based in Flower Lodge and enjoyed many years of healthy competition with their cross-city rivals Evergreen United F.C./Cork Celtic F.C. Originally Flower Lodge, home to several Cork soccer teams, the old stadium was aquired by the GAA, and, to give a false air of tradition and Irish-ness, renamed Páirc Uí Rinn (Ring Park in the near-extinct Irish language). ...
