Much like a Campus Area Network (IE a College Campus), A Corporate Area Network serves to wirelessly connect office buildings. For an example of a Corprate campus see Googleplex. In most cases is is more economical to connect multiple buildings together wirelessly then it is to lay cable between the many LANs.
A corporateareanetwork (CAN) is a separate, protected portion of a corporation's intranet.
When people are on the corporateareanetwork, they are sometimes said to be in the CAN: they do not have access to the Internet -- or to the rest of the corporatenetwork, for that matter.
CAN is sometimes said to stand for campus areanetwork, where it refers to an interconnection of local areanetworks (LANs) that are geographically dispersed more widely than in a LAN, but less so than in a wide areanetwork (WAN).
In corporations, people at branch offices, telecommuters, and people who are traveling may need access to the corporation'snetwork.
The telecommuters can then dial a toll-free number to reach the NAS and use their VPN client software to access the corporatenetwork.
Administrators can create customized install sets whereby you can choose which components are installed, which settings can be modified by end-users, which pcAnywhere objects are included, and how the installation will look to the end-user.
