Coseley Urban District council was formed in 1897 (the area having previously been in the Manor of Sedgley) and existed for 69 years until 1966 when most of the district was incorporated into Dudley County Borough. Parts of Coseley were incorporated into Wolverhampton Metropolitan Borough. Coseley also became part of the Bilston WV14 postal district.
