Constantine Caramanlis, was born in Athens and studied at Athens University's Law School and at the private Deree College, continuing with postgraduate studies in the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy Tufts University in the United States, where he gained a master's degree and a doctorate in political sciences, international relations and diplomatic history.
Caramanlis was a member of New Democracy's youth wing, ONNED, and served in ONNED's and New Democracy's organisational and ideological sectors from 1974 to 1979 and from 1984 to 1989.

Constantinos Simitis (Greek: Κωνσταντίνος Σημίτης) (born June 23, 1936), usually referred to as Costas Simitis, was Prime Minister of Greece and leader of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) from 1996 to 2004.
Costas Simitis was born in Piraeus to Georgios (George) Simitis, Professor at the School of Economic and Commercial Sciences and his wife Fani Christopoulou.
In 7 March 2004 New Democracy won the elections and Costas Caramanlis succedeed Simitis in the office of Prime Minister.
