Encyclopedia > Cotolerance

In mathematical logic, a cotolerant sequence is a sequence

of formal theories such that there are consistent extensions of these theories with each Si + 1 is cointerpretable in Si. Cotolerance naturally generalizes from sequences of theories to trees of theories.

This concept, together with its dual concept of tolerance, was introduced by Japaridze (http://www.csc.villanova.edu/~japaridz/) in 1992, who also proved that, for Peano arithmetic and any stronger theories with effective axiomatizations, tolerance is equivalent to Σ1-consistency.

Mycorrhiza Literature Exchange (276 words)
We hypothesized that this population had developed adaptive Cu tolerance and was able to protect pine trees against Cu toxicity.
Cotolerance does not occur in the S. luteus isolates studied.
In a dose-response experiment, the Cu sensitivity of nonmycorrhizal Pinus sylvestris seedlings was compared to the sensitivity of mycorrhizal seedlings colonized either by a Cu-sensitive or Cu-tolerant S. luteus isolate.
