Couderay is a village located in Sawyer County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 96. The village is located within the Town of Couderay.

On February 4, 1996, the temperature fell to a bitter cold -55°F (-48°C), the coldest temperature ever recorded in Wisconsin.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.04% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 96 people, 40 households, and 26 families residing in the village. The population density is 38.2/km² (99.2/mi²). There are 54 housing units at an average density of 21.5/km² (55.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 79.17% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 19.79% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.04% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 1.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 40 households out of which 30.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% are married couples living together, 5.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% are non-families. 27.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.88.


In the village the population is spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 11.5% from 18 to 24, 20.8% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 128.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 120.6 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $40,417, and the median income for a family is $41,042. Males have a median income of $33,750 versus $9,750 for females. The per capita income for the village is $14,008. 11.4% of the population and 6.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 41.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
