CourtTV Canada was licensed as The Law & Order Channel by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in November 2000, and was launched on September 7, 2001 as CourtTV Canada under the ownership of CHUM Limited. This channel replaced the US CourtTV which was available on most service providers in Canada. On June 22, 2007, CTVgm gained control of CourtTV Canada as a result of its takeover of CHUM Limited.
