Courtney Heironimus is a ZAFT test pilot that is known to have tested a large amount of ZAFT mobile suits. He first tested the mass production version of the ZGMF-1017 GINN, followed by the ZGMF-515 CGUE and other ZAFT units. He is also known to have been the test pilot of the first ZAFT-built Gundam, the YMF-X000A Dreadnought. However, he did not possess the spatial awareness needed to control the DRAGOON system it was designed to test, and the unit was later test piloted (and subsequently stolen) by Newtype clone, Prea LeVeri, who was able to test these systems. Near the end of the Bloody Valentine War, he was the test pilot for the prototype ZGMF-X999A ZAKU Trial Type. During this testing, he encountered a large squadron of Earth Alliance GAT-02L2 Dagger L mobile suits during test run of the ZAKU in the South American rainforest. Ignoring the treaty between ZAFT and the Earth Alliance that no fighting would occur in neutral zone, the Dagger L's attacked and were subsequently wiped out. After this encounter, Courtney met freelance journalist Jess Rabble. After seeing Jess' ZGMF-X12 Astray Out Frame, his thought immediately was "Is that number 12?", refering the "missing" ZGMF-X12A, adding another unknown to the Out Frame. The DRAGOON uses Quantum Communication to send signals to weapon pods to move them around without the awkward wire-guidance used in mobile armors such as the TS-MA2mod.00 Moebius Zero, or the Striker Pack AQM/E-X04 Gunbarrel Striker.
The original system was first tested in the YMF-X000A Dreadnought, tested by ZAFT pilot Courtney Hieronimus and then later civilian Prayer Reverie.
The most prominent unit using the DRAGOON system is the prototype unit ZGMF-X13A Providence, piloted by ZAFT ace Rau Le Creuset during the Second Battle of Jachin Due.
While these weapons were tethered to the suit by wires, they were completely DRAGOON controlled; the wires were simply to recover the weapons in the event of a malfunction in the still-experimental system.
The Dreadnought Gundam was test piloted by CourtneyHeironimus, then acquired by the Junk Guild, and piloted by Prayer Reverie, a Newtype clone whose exact origins are unknown.
Shortly before the war's end, it was upgraded by Lowe Gear with a new backpack mounting four large DRAGOON weapon pods, similar to those of the Providence Gundam.
