Recent history

When Marc Pritchard became part of the works behind CoverGirl Cosmetics, he came up with the marketing campaign “Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Cover Girl”. After this campaign was launched, CoverGirl Cosmetics soon became the “number one mass-market share position in the U.S., Canada and Switzerland, while also doubling its share in Mexico and substantially increasing sales in Australia”[citation needed]. NEW YORK Procter and Gamble's CoverGirl makeup said Drew Barrymore would be the latest face to tout the brand, and would also serve as co-creative director for a new TV spot set to air in January 2008.
"Drew is a wonderful addition to the CoverGirl family and her role—both in front of the camera and behind the scenes as co-creative director—is new and different for the cosmetics industry," Esi Eggleston Bracey, vp, gm at CoverGirl Cosmetics North America, said in a statement.
CoverGirl spent more than $90 million on advertising in 2006, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

Brinkley was a supermodel before there was such a word, and a large part of her popularity and recognizability came through 20 years of CoverGirl ads.
The two parted ways in the mid-1990s, but it was an "amiable separation." Put it this way, she continued to use CoverGirl makeup, Brinkley says with a laugh.
