Cowal is a peninsula of Argyll in the Scottish Highlands. The northern part of Cowal is mostly the mountainous Argyll Forest Park. Cowal is separated from the Kintyre peninsula to the west by Loch Fyne, and from Inverclyde and North Ayrshire to the east by the Firth of Clyde. The sea lochs Loch Long and Loch Goil lie to the northeast, and the south of peninsula is split into three forks by two further sea lochs, Loch Riddon and Loch Striven. Cowal's only burgh is Dunoon in the south east, from which ferries sail to Gourock in Inverclyde. Other ferries run from Portavadie in the west to Tarbert in Kintyre, and from Colintraive in the south to Rhubodach on the Isle of Bute. Cowal is among the dozen U.S. legislators and business leaders who have visited Cuba in recent weeks to explore the possibilities of a rapprochement between the two countries, which have had no diplomatic relations for 40 years.
Cowal agreed that eliminating the restrictions on traveling to Cuba is as important as relaxing the economic blockade.
Cowal is optimistic that Congress will vote in favor of lifting the travel restrictions this year, adding that she’s not sure if the current U.S. president will prevent that.
