History
Cox Green School was founded in 1967, and in 1973 was part of a reorganisation of education in Maidenhead. The two single sex grammar schools, Desborough (boys) and Newlands (girls), Furze Platt School to the north of the town, Altwood C of E School and Cox Green School all became 11-18 comprehensives. Together with Holyport Manor Special School, we now form the Maidenhead Federation. This means they work collaboratively and share resources to improve the education available in the town. This includes a shared sixth form option block. Achievements Cox Green School's achievements were recognised by the DfES with the award of Beacon Status which was effective between September 2001-4. The school also holds Sportsmark and Artsmark Silver. They are now a Performing Arts and Media Specialist School. This reflects the excellence of the Arts in the widest sense in the school. This status has allowed Cox Green to expand the opportunities offered to students. This is building their self esteem and has benefits across the curriculum. The successful Rock Challenge team is a good example of these benefits. In 2006 their performance, ‘Destroyer of Worlds’ came second in the South of England Final in front of 1500 people in Portsmouth. Location Cox Green is a parish in its own right to the south-west of Maidenhead. There are several business parks within a five-mile radius but otherwise the area is residential. Pupils come from the two primary schools in Cox Green, from the neighbouring area of Woodlands Park from various villages round about and in increasing numbers from primary schools in Maidenhead itself and Buckinghamshire.
