Coyne Center is a census-designated place located in Rock Island County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 906.


Geography

Coyne Center is located at 41°24'28" North, 90°33'51" West (41.407700, -90.564187)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.6 km˛ (1.8 mi˛). 4.6 km˛ (1.8 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 906 people, 352 households, and 290 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 195.4/km˛ (505.4/mi˛). There are 356 housing units at an average density of 76.8/km˛ (198.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 98.68% White, 0.77% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.22% from two or more races. 0.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 352 households out of which 28.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.3% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.6% are non-families. 12.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 2.80.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 33.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.8 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $50,000, and the median income for a family is $47,422. Males have a median income of $30,909 versus $23,750 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,093. 4.3% of the population and 3.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.6% of those under the age of 18 and 1.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Coyne said pharmaceutical companies are excited about a seafood connection for heparin, because the source used now is usually pig intestines.
