Encyclopedia > Cozaddale, Ohio

Cozaddale is an unincorporated community in southeastern Hamilton Township, Warren County, Ohio. It is about one mile south of Camargo, one mile southeast of Hickory Corner, and two miles west of Pleasant Plain. It was laid out by John J. Cozad in 1871 (father of Robert Henri), who hoped to prosper from the site's location on the Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad (later the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad). Two Cozaddale natives are George Terwilleger and Ches Crist. Terwilleger was born in Cozaddale in 1941, and served as Warren County Commissioner and as State Representative. A bridge in Foster, Ohio, where Old 3-C Highway crosses the Little Miami River, is named in his honor. Ches Crist was born in 1882 in Cozaddale. Why he is so notable is the fact that he is the only Cozaddale-born native to play Professional baseball. He played for the 1906 Philadelphia Phillies, where he played in 6 games at catcher, but went 0-for-11 in his only stint in the majors.
