Craigavon Borough Council is a Local Council in County Armagh in Northern Ireland. The headquarters of the Council is in Craigavon, on the shores of Lough Neagh, a town built between Lurgan and Portadown. The Council area includes the large towns of Lurgan and Portadown, as well as smaller ones including Waringstown and Donaghcloney. The Craigavon Borough Council area consists of 4 electoral areas: Central, Loughside, Lurgan and Portadown from which 26 Council members are elected through local government elections every four years. The Council holds an Annual General Meeting in June, at which a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected. Originally, Craigavon was planned as a 'new city' on a par with the new towns that were being built in England in the 1960s.
