Encyclopedia > Creep (project management)

Functionality, mission and scope creep are problems in project management where the initial objectives of the project are jeopardized by a gradual increase in overall objectives as the project progresses.

The need to achieve the new objectives can overwhelm the capacity of the resources allocated to the project resulting in the project missing deadlines, budgets or failing completely.

Scope Creep (2333 words)
Dishonest project managers are often covertly in league with Scope-Creep, and enact the same charms and rituals cynically and corruptly.
From the project manager’s perspective, the boundary is an interface of a particular kind, which she perceives in a particular way.
There are other important aspects of the project boundary besides scope, and it is often useful for the consultant to focus on these aspects instead, to provide a view that is complementary to the project manager’s view.
