Location of Crestwood in DC (yellow square) Crestwood is an entirely residential neighborhood located in Northwest Washington, DC. It is located in the city's Ward 4 (political subdivision). It is bounded by Rock Creek Park (on the north, west, and south) and 16th Street NW to the east. The Carter Barron Amphitheatre and William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Center, both referred to simply as "Carter Barron," border the neighborhood to the north in Rock Creek Park. The amphitheatre hosts many free cultural events during the spring and summer, and the Legg Mason Tennis Classic is played here. Crestwood is centrally located on 16th Street, being about fifteen minutes by car from both the K Street business district and downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. The closest Metro station is Georgia Ave-Petworth. Buses run regularly on 16th Street to the Silver Spring Metro Station as well as to the Metro Center and Federal Triangle stations downtown. As of the 2000 Census, the neighborhood had a population of 2,184. The neighborhood is 61.5% black, 31.7% white, and about 1% asian and latino. In 2000 the median household income was $85,180 and the median per capita income was $49,344. Crestwood is home to Ward 4 City Council Member Adrian Fenty and City Council Chair Linda Cropp. Cropp briefly made the national spotlight in December 2004 for jeopardizing the return of a Major League Baseball team, the Washington Nationals (fomerly the Montreal Expos), to the city.
