Crowley is a town located in Crowley County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 187.


Geography

Crowley is located at 38°11'37" North, 103°51'28" West (38.193614, -103.857802)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 km˛ (0.3 mi˛). 0.7 km˛ (0.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 187 people, 76 households, and 48 families residing in the town. The population density is 277.7/km˛ (730.6/mi˛). There are 85 housing units at an average density of 126.2/km˛ (332.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 82.35% White, 1.60% African American, 2.67% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 12.30% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 39.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 76 households out of which 27.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% are married couples living together, 14.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% are non-families. 31.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.19.


In the town the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 11.2% from 18 to 24, 21.9% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.1 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $30,313, and the median income for a family is $32,083. Males have a median income of $21,875 versus $20,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,119. 15.3% of the population and 8.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.0% of those under the age of 18 and 24.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Crowley County was created by the Colorado legislature on May 29, 1911 out of the northern portions of Otero County, previously both were parts of Bent County.
The county seat is in Ordway, a town established in 1890 that quickly became the economic hub of the area.
