Crown Castle International Corp. is an American corporation which provides infrastructure for broadcasting and mobile telephony. It operates in the United States, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom and Australia. In the UK it is a co-owner of Freeview and owns the privatised domestic transmitter network formerly owned by the BBC. It provides mobile telephone coverage to 95% of the UK population, 92% of the Australian population and 68 of the top 100 markets in the US on behalf of service providers such as 3, AT&T Wireless, Cingular, mmO2, Nextel, Orange, Sprint PCS, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Vodafone. It is based in Houston, Texas.


On August 31, 2004 Crown Castle completed the sale of its UK subsidiary to National Grid Transco Plc for $2.035 billion in cash.
