Crown Prince Ka Naung (1829 - 1866) was a younger brother of Burmese King Mindon. They overthrew their half brother King Bagan (1848-1853) and he became crown prince in 1853. King Mindon was dedicated to religion but Crown Prince Ka Naung was skillful in administration. He tried to rebuild the Burmese Army with modern weapons. He sent many people to study at western countries. Many arm factories and industries were established. He was considered a visionary who attempted to modernise the country. In an unsuccessful rebellion in Jun 18, 1866 by princes Myin Kwin and Myin Khondaing (son of Kin Mindon), Ka Naung was assassinated. In 1878, King Mindon died and his son Prince Thibaw became King. Thibaw was defeated by British Emperor in 1886 with Third Burmese War. Many believed that Burmese history would have been different if Crown Prince Ka Naung had not been assassinated.
