Crystal Palace station

Crystal Palace railway station is the only surviving railway station at Crystal Palace in south London.

When the Crystal Palace was built it was served by two stations on two different lines - Crystal Palace high-level station (there being several stations on the link to Nunhead railway station) and Crystal Palace low-level station. Crystal Palace high-level station was below Crystal Palace Parade and was directly connected to the Palace by a tunnel (which is now Grade 1 listed). Crystal Palace low-level station was further away (on Anerley Hill) and has a design which references the look of the palace.

When the Crystal Palace burnt down in 1936 it was uneconomic to have two railway stations serving one suburban area. The high-level station closed down and remained derelict for many years. In the 1990s the site was used for housing. The tunnel still remains but is sealed off, but is sometimes opened to allow organised visit by foot.

Trains to Crystal Palace depart from London Bridge and London Victoria. There is a decommissioned platform.
