Crystal Spring Rhododendron Gardens (7 acres) are botanical gardens located on SE 28 Avenue between Eastmoreland Golf Course and Reed College, in Portland, Oregon, USA. The garden is open daily; an admission fee is charged during the peak season (March through Labor Day). Blooming times are March to June. The garden began in 1950 as a rhododendron test garden, on a site previously covered with brush, blackberries, native trees, and the remnants of a Shakespeare theater developed by Reed College students. In 1964 its name was officially changed to Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. Portland Parks & Recreation - Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden (658 words)
The portion of the Garden known as the Peninsula was later designed by Wallace K. Huntington, a well-known Portland landscape architect, and dedicated in 1977.
The care of the plants and general garden maintenance is provided by a devoted group of volunteers from the Portland Chapter and the Master Gardener program who work every Wednesday from February to November.
