Csepel is District XXI of Budapest, in the south. It is the northern peak of Csepel Island in the Danube, comprising one tenth of the island's complete area. Being on an island, it is the only district of Budapest which is neither in Pest nor in Buda. It has approximately 85,000 inhabitants. It is the most easily available from the downtown by the suburban railway HÉV. It is connected to the neighbouring southern parts of Pest, Ferencváros and Pesterzsébet, by bridges, and to Soroksár by a ferry. There are several bus lines running inside the district. It became part of Budapest in 1950. Formerly it belonged to the working class and had several factories (there was even a bicycle named Csepel). It contains housing estates as well as town-like areas and parks. The factories of Csepel were where the 1956 revolution made its last stand.


Among its sights can be mentioned the Baroque parish church built in 1770, and the Csepel Gallery and Museum of the Local History. The Csepel Collection of Factory History may also be worth a visit.


The former Csepel Művek (a giant industrial area) is nowadays used by musicians for practising.

Csepel (Csepel-sziget), District XXI of the Hungarian capital, is situated on an island in the Danube and is the headquarters of the Csepel Vas-és Fémmivek (Csepel Iron and Metal Works).
The riverside swimming-bath at Csepel, fed by a thermal spring, is the third largest of its kind in Budapest.
It is situated on the Soroksári Duna, a branch of the river on the east side of Csepel Island.
