Cubitt Town is an area on the Isle of Dogs in Tower Hamlets in London, England. It is on the east of the Isle, facing Greenwich across the River Thames. To the west is Millwall, to the northwest Canary Wharf and to the north, across the Blue Bridge, Blackwall


It is served by the Docklands Light Railway stations Crossharbour and London Arena and Island Gardens .

Thomas Cubitt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (335 words)
Thomas Cubitt (1788-1855) was the leading master builder in London in the second quarter of the 19th century, and also carried out several projects in other parts of England.
Cubitt's public works included work on the provision of public parks, including being an organiser of the Battersea Park Scheme and a guarantor of the Great Exhibition of 1851, and contributing to the Metropolitan Buildings Act of 1855.
Cubitt's younger brother Lewis was an architect, and designed many of the houses built by his elder brother.

William Cubitt (1791-1863) (Thomas's brother) built Cubitt's Town and was Lord Mayor of London.
He was also responsible for the reclaiming and development of Cubitt Town (named after him) in the Isle of Dogs to house workers in the shipyards and docks (1840-50).
Lewis Cubitt was born 29 Sep 1799 and died 9 June 1883 at Lewes Crescent, Brighton.
