Although the subject of much humor among San Luis Obispo County youth for being a community college, local high school students and students of Cuesta call it "UC Cuesta", Cuesta College is actually a well respected school and yields one of the top four-year-school transfer rates of California's community colleges.
One of its most notable former students is actor Gabrielle Union, who transferred to the college from the University of Nebraska and eventually left it for the University of California, Los Angeles.
