It is renowned for its excellent exam results and was rated the 3rd best Scottish state school in 2005.[1] Founded in 1967, the academy has always played a key role in the community and the wider area, with a branch of the Dutch Rijnlands Lyceum International School based at the school for children of oil industry expats. The school has various sports teams and societies, along with a large music set-up and its own newspaper/magazine. It is the largest state school in Aberdeen (based on pupil numbers). The school is to be replaced with a new building on the site of the existing playing fields, with plans available on the school website and at local council locations.
