Cuno Hoffmeister (February 2, 1892 - January 2, 1968) was a German astronomer. He discovered approximately 10,000 variable stars and several asteroids. He also co-discovered comet C/1959 O1. A crater on the Moon is named after him, as are the asteroids 1726 Hoffmeister and 4183 Cuno.


His students included Eva Ahnert-Rohlfs.

Cuno is about 4-9 km in diameter and is an S-type asteroid, meaning that it is highly reflective and composed of nickel-iron mixed with iron- and magnesium-silicates.
