Cushing is a city located in Woodbury County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 246.


Geography

Cushing is located at 42°27'54" North, 95°40'35" West (42.465087, -95.676336)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.8 km˛ (0.3 mi˛). 0.8 km˛ (0.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 246 people, 104 households, and 66 families residing in the city. The population density is 296.8/km˛ (771.9/mi˛). There are 118 housing units at an average density of 142.4/km˛ (370.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 100.00% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 104 households out of which 31.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% are married couples living together, 4.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% are non-families. 32.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.98.


In the city the population is spread out with 26.8% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 20.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.5 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $37,500, and the median income for a family is $47,000. Males have a median income of $29,844 versus $21,719 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,408. 6.7% of the population and 2.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.5% of those under the age of 18 and 10.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Cushing was born and raised in Cape Cod, Massachusetts until after his parent's divorce in 1980 when his mother moved the family to New Bedford, Massachusetts.
In 2002, Singer Bad Dancer split, and Cushing went on to enter into the Boston music scene, joining up with Boston band Pure Fiction on keyboards and guitar, assisting with the release of their album "From All Sides" in 2003 before leaving the band in early 2004 to pursue a solo career full-time.
As of summer 2006, Cushing spends his time in both Boston and Cape Cod and has hooked up with well-known Boston rockers Rocketscience performing on bass guitar for the band while writing songs for an upcoming release to be determined.
