Cyangugu or Ciangugu is a prefecture and town in southwestern Rwanda close to the border of Democratic Republic of Congo and close to the shores of Lake Kivu. It is home to a prison. The coordinates of the town of Cyangugu are 2.48S, 28.90E. Its population in 2002 was approximately 19,900

Cyangugu or Ciangugu was a province in south western Rwanda, lying at the southern end of Lake Kivu, east of Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The settlement has two main areas: Cyangugu itself is the lakeside resort, while Kamembe lies further inland and is the industrial and transport centre.
