Cyber Elves are a unique feature of the Mega Man Zero series of video games for the Gameboy Advance. They are computer programs with physical forms which fuse with Zero to enhance his abilities or provide temporary benefits (such as healing his life gauge, providing cover fire or raising his Rank to A). In all games, the more powerful Cyber Elves had to be fed blue Energy crystals (often in the hundreds, or even thousands) in order to grow into their "adult" forms and enable Zero to use their abilities. This article needs to be cleaned up to conform to a higher standard of quality. ... Zero as he appears in Mega Man Zero, holding his signature weapon, the Z Saber Zero is one of the main characters in the popular Mega Man X (in Japan, Rockman X) series and Mega Man Zero series of video games. ...

The Cyber Elves appearing in each game are classified into three groups, "Nurse", "Animal", and "Hacker". The Nurse Elves were healers. They would restore a fixed amount of health to Zero's life gauage, extend the length his life gauage, or even turn into a Sub Tank for his use. Sub Tanks are power-ups that appear in the MegaMan X and MegaMan Zero game series. They are items which, when acquired, will collect excess energy you pick up when your life gauage is full. ...

Animal Elves would convey useful support abilities like providing cover fire for Zero, creating temporary barriers, freezing enemies temporarily by flying into them, or absorbing enemy shots and then exploding to damage them. Also among the Animal types were Cyber Elves that would give important abilities to Zero, such as doubling his life gauage, or increasing his running or climbing speed.

The Hacker type Elves are generally very powerful, and would alter key things in the game to your advantage. Among these Elves were ones which would cut the level Boss' HP in half, turn all enemies into Mettaurs, or remove the danger of one-hit-kill zones such as spikes and lava PERMANENTLY (the utility of this can not be overstated), or instantly raise your rank to A for that level.

In the first and second installments of the series, the Elves would "die" after being used, and using them would subtract points from your score for each game level afterwards. Thus if one was trying to get a high ranking, it was important to strategize as to which Elves to use and when.

In the third game in the series the "Satellite" Elf aspect was introduced. In this system, some Cyber Elves could be equipped on Zero and provide their support effects without sacrificing the Elf, and without lowering your score. Most Elves could be converted to Satellite class if fed enough energy crystals, however you could only equip two Satellite Elves at a time, thus adding another layer of strategy to the game.

Furthermore, all Elves currently changed to Satellite class would automatically activate whenever Zero entered Cyber World, and would also affect your score for that level. Because of this, it was often a good idea to avoid Cyber World when going for a high score.

In addition to these effects, Cyber Elves play a vital role in the plot of the games as well. To begin with, the Cyber Elf "Passy" was the one who ressurected Zero in the first game of the series, and also apparently healed him of all his injuries in the process. Second, X appears in all three installments as a Cyber Elf, and provides an integral link to the storyline of the X-Series, as well as helping you when he can (he's the one that gives you the Z-Saber in the first game). Lastly, the Dark Elf is an important part of both the second and third games, the former to (unsuccessfully) stop it's release, and the latter to (unsuccuessfully) stop Dr. Weil from getting his hands on it. X in his Force Armor from Mega Man X4 Mega Man X is main character of the Mega Man X series created by Capcom. ... Dark elves are the (mostly) evil counterparts of the elves in many mythologies and fantasy settings. ...
